When a candidate receives an invitation to apply to the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) under the Express Entry system, Citizenship and Immigration Canada uses the following criteria to assess the application:

  1. Candidates must have at least 12 months of full-time (or an equal amount in part-time) skilled work experience in Canada in the three years before applying;
  2. Candidates must have gained the experience in Canada with the proper authorization; and
  3. Candidates must meet the required language levels for each language ability (speaking, reading, writing and listening).

Please note that calculating full-time employment or its equivalent can be tricky in some cases. In addition, please note that NOT every employment qualifies under the CEC category.

Admissibility

Medical Inadmissibility:

Applicants and their immediate and accompanying family members will have to take a medical examination before coming to Canada.

Only a designated medical practitioner can conduct medical examinations. The examinations are only valid for 12 months.

Criminal/Security Inadmissibility:

Each applicant over the age of 18 must provide police clearances for all countries and states in which he or she has resided for more than 6 months.

If you have criminal convictions or charges pending, contact us to find out whether you are criminally inadmissible.
